MamacitasMonday: Alexa Myta

Alexa was on the first instructors at Btone I took classes with, and one of the reasons I wanted to become an instructor there. Her classes are challenging but she always makes you feel like you could do so much more! 

I am lucky to have her as a friend and I am so happy she is part of this series. Read more about Alexa below!

AA: Ok, in one sentence tell us who you are? (where are you from, where did you grow up,guilty pleasure, etc.)

AM: I grew up in CT and relocated to a small town in NY with my family during high school. In 2011, I moved to Boston for college and have stayed put ever since continuing my education. I’ve always loved staying active and living in Boston has allowed me to pursue different ways of doing so.

AA: What is your favorite way to move your body aka working out?

AM: As an instructor at Btone fitness, I am obviously obsessed with working out on the megaformer. Aside from that, I’m a huge fan of spin and have recently been getting into more boot camp style classes.

AA: If you could be one type of exercise, which one would you be and why?

AM: A tone routine on the megaformer! When practicing on my own I come up with a routine that is either simple or complicated depending on how I feel and what I want to get out of my workout. For example, some days I want something difficult that results in an intense sweat session, while on other days I just need a simple stretch that focuses more on form and fluidity. The results I have seen over the course of the past year are unbelievable and I feel stronger both mentally and physically.

AA: What gets you out of bed and says I wanna teach today?

AM: My biggest motivators to get up and teach are my clients and a really good playlist. It’s not always easy waking up early to teach a 6 AM class, but to be honest, there’s no other way I’d rather start my day than with some good tunes and smiling faces (well for the most part – unless we’re doing bungee cord work).

AA: When times are hard, how do you channel your inner badass?

AM: I’ve been under a lot of stress lately with grad school and have been struggling with completing assignments, teaching, and taking care of myself. Usually when I get to this point I take a step back and prioritize – if I don’t have my health, the rest falls apart. A good night’s rest, an intense workout, and good food always put me in a much better mood to kick ass and finish what I need to get done.

AA: How would you describe your happy place?

AM: My parent’s house is near long island sound in NY, so whenever I’m home I take advantage of being able to grab my dog and run along the beach. There’s a hidden cove at the end of my usual running route where I could sit for hours and just breathe. I always head back home feeling calm and content.

AA: If you could spend the rest of your life in one place, where would it be?

AM: Somewhere warm! Winter in New England will be the death of me…(I feel ya girl -AA)

AA: What is your badass quote?

AM: It’s simple: “When there’s a will, there’s a way”
