MamacitasMonday: Elise Caira

If you ever scrolled through Instagram under the hashtag #BostonFitness then I am sure you have seen Elise. I started following her a while back because I saw Nick (a photographer friend) did a photoshoot with her. I obviously had to go and follow her, because 1. she is from Boston 2. she looked like a badass, and well...I love badass women.

Right after I did, she started posting about going on her own and making her dreams happen by opening a fitness studio, I WOWED right away, because she is like 20ish???? talk about making shit happen!

I have (sadly) never taken her classes, but I have heard they are AMAZING AKA you will die but it will be worth it kinda class, so I had to ask her to be part of #MamacitasMonday and I am so happy she agreed!

Here all about Elise.

AA: Ok, in one sentence tell us who you are? (where are you from, where did you grow up, guilty pleasure, etc.)

EC: I grew up in Wakefield, MA, went to Bentley University to play college basketball, fell in love with all things fitness,  and am now right back in my hometown with my brainchild:  Sweat Fixx!

AA: What is your favorite way to move your booty AKA working out?   

EC: I have never been the kind of  person who can only do one type of workout, every day of the week. I love switching things up and definitely found that my body responds better that way. I LOVE combining cardio with heavy lifting. Since I’ve had two ACL surgeries, I always try to find low impact ways to cardio -  so the combo workout of rowing and strength training is my JAM right now. The water rower has honestly humbled me in a way no other workout has. I thought I was in shape, and then I jumped on a water rower and sprinted 300 meters. Talk about a WAKE UP CALL! Combine that cardio burst  that with some heavy lifting (and of course abs) and that’s where the magic happens!

AA: If you could be one type of exercise, which one would you be and why?

EC: Good question, I would probably have to say boxing.  I feel like I am a very intense and passionate person. When I do something,  I go balls to the wall, and I’m not going to half ass it. Let’s be honest - when you are in the ring, there is no half assing anything, or you will pay for it . I feel like one of my biggest strengths is being able push through the pain/suck/whatever feeling you feel when you are at your edge, and simply outwork everyone else around. When you are in a boxing match, you try to get stronger every round. That’s something I pride myself on; being able to endure and be the hardest worker in the room, even when times get tough. I truly believe in hustling to get what you want, and in boxing (just like in life)  there are no shortcuts just hard work. I LOVE that.

AA: What gets you out of bed, and says I wanna teach today?

EC: I LOVE seeing people hit their edge! I have the best freaking clients, and they motivate the hell out of me.  They push me to constantly come up with new ways to challenge them, and are always ready for whatever weird crap I throw at them. They push me to be a better trainer, and it’s just fun! That moment when you push someone to the edge of their comfort zone, and you can see them making a choice: either hit their edge  or cave in. You can see that choice and then you can see them hit that moment of workout bliss. It’s inspiring and it makes me excited to teach clients that will take it past their comfort zones, because they believe and trust in you.

AA: When times are hard, how do you channel your inner badass?

EC: When times are tough, I try to remember my goals and what I’m working towards. I hate excuses, and feel like once you start, it becomes a habit. I try to remember that, especially when I’m tired, teaching  25+ classes a week, notable to sleep, or just having a shitty day... I always try to remember that I’m hustling for a reason. That every day I get to wake up,be surrounded by badass people, and work on something I’m passionate about. Days aren’t always perfect, but I think good things come to those that hustle!

AA: How would you describe your happy place?

EC: Besides being a complete workout freak,  I love FOOD (and drinks let’s be honest #EverythingInModeration) One of my favorite things to do is try new restaurants. I love just relaxing with a drink in hand and being able to sit back try new food with great people. It’s something that I never really appreciated  when I was younger, but bring me to a new tapas restaurant, with some sangria & I’m a happy camper.

AA: If could spend your life in one place, where would it be?

EC: This constantly changes, but at the moment I am in love with Burlington, Vermont. I love the restaurants (and the beer!) and just the overall good vibes there. I am all about being outside and active, and I feel like there are so  many different ways to do that there. At the same time, the pace there  is completely different than my personality, which is constantly on the go! When I’m there things just slow down. It’s nice to have that balance and simplicity at times.

AA: What is your badass quote?
