Mamacitas Monday: Kara Lennon

Mamacitas Monday: Kara Lennon

Happy (arctic) Monday from bean town <3

A while back, I had a series called "FitAndHealthyBy", where I interviewed women that inspired me through their account on Instagram or that I met in the past. It made me really happy to share their story with you, and honestly, loved to connect with them.

However, I wanted to change a little bit the series, and instead, feature mamacitas that not only inspire me but inspire Boston (and beyond!). So I decided to change it a little bit and feature once a week instructors that are changing this city one tap back/punch/burpee at a time. I would also feature instructors when I am in the road, maybe some Aussies or Mexicans will pop up on your screen!

For today's Mamacitas Monday, I am bringing you Kara Lennon - a Boston babe that is smashing the fitness world and that I randomly met a few weeks back! (and wondered why it took me ages to get to her class!)

To start off right, I went down to B/Spoke to take her class (which I will do for future mamacitas!), to see what she was all about, and lemme tell ya that WOW! Kara, is pure fucking energy. I am taking not stopping smiling and motivating us through the whole class. Plus, DAMNNN FUCKING TUNESSSSS - her music was ON POINT

Let's get into it, and dive straight into what Kara is all about...believe me, you will LOVE her <3

AA: Ok, in one sentence tell us who you are? (where are you from, where did you grow up, guilty pleasure, etc.)

KL: My name is Kara and I'm from Methuen, a town about 30 minutes north of Boston. I've lived in the city since I was 19 and couldn't bare to leave once I got here. I attended Umass Boston for undergrad where I earned my Bachelors in Exercise and Health Science and have been working in the fitness industry for the past 5 years. I'm a NASM CPT, swim coach, and also a certified teacher! I was an Elementary Physical Education Teacher until last August when I left to pursue my career in full time fitness. My guilty pleasure is as many slices of Tripoli's Pizza as I can handle. Anyone from the North Shore knows it's the best pizza ON EARTH!

AA: What is your favorite way to move your booty AKA working out?

KL: Indoor cycling was always something I felt connected to because you do it to music, and that's everything to me. But honestly, nothing beats a good, hard run. Both are very different but at the end of the day, a sweat to some good tunes is my jam.

AA: If you could be one type of exercise, which one would you be and why?

KL: My roommate says I'm HIIT because I'm like a burst of energy! If not that, is sprinting at 13.5 on the treadmill at Barry's an option? Nothing makes me feel more alive than that.

AA: What gets you out of bed, and says I wanna teach today?

KL: The riders and music. You (literally) can't do class without one. Energy is everything in group fitness and that's provided by both of them.

AA: When times are hard, how do you channel your inner badass?

KL: Throw on my backwards hat and probably swear a couple more times than is socially acceptable. (Oops ;) ) I always tell my riders, it's all a mind game. If you can convince yourself you can do it, you will. On days when I'm really physically exhausted or maybe I've got something else going on that's distracting - I try to zone in on what's actually happening and put all my energy into that. When you convince yourself to focus completely on your workout, that's when the magic happens.

AA: How would you describe your happy place?

KL: I have a few places I consider this, and all for different reasons. Newport, Rhode Island. Pretty much anywhere on Cape Cod. Drinking a coconut margarita at Loco. And my parents' house will always be like a sanctuary to me. I feel very relaxed and at peace when I'm there.

AA: If could spend your life in one place, where would it be?

KL: People tell me I'd go to Southern California and never come back. But I've never lived anywhere else, Boston really does it for me. This is home.

AA: What is your badass quote?

"Relentless forward progress."

AA: Where can we catch you?

KL: B/SPOKE Studios in Downtown Boston, Cape Cod, and soon - Wellesley! And stay tuned for more surprises and ways to sweat with me coming in 2017! ;)

AA: Where can we follow you?
