MamacitasMonday: Samantha Poccia

#MamacitaMonday is a glimpse in the life of a babe that inspire Boston (and beyond!) - someone that not only teaches fitness classes but is making an impact. I take classes with this babes, work with them or happen to meet them. You bet they all look gorg on the podium but they are more than that, and I know you want a peek ;)

This week, I got the chance to talk with my dear friend Sam. Sam and I go back to our BBG days. We met through Facebook and haven't looked back since then. We both quit our jobs and started to teach around Boston! Sam teaches the best spin classes and she is running the Boston Marathon! 

AA: Ok, in one sentence tell us who you are? (where are you from, where did you grow up, guilty pleasure, etc.)

SP: I'm from a small town in CT and moved to Boston in 2013. I have a passion for everything health, fitness & nutrition and I love helping others discover how to live well! 

AA: What is your favorite way to move your booty AKA working out?

SP: Definitely running outside. I love turning on some good jams and getting into the zone. It's 100% my time and nothing beats being out in nature. I also love trying new classes and building up my strength with lifting. 

AA: If you could be one type of exercise, which one would you be and why?

SP: This would depend on my mood! Most of the time I'm spin--the music, the community and energy just takes me to another level. But other times I'm zenned out like savasana.

AA: What gets you out of bed, and says I wanna teach today?

SP: The people in my classes!! 100%! They are rockstars and seeing them achieve new goals makes me want to work harder for them. 

AA: When times are hard, how do you channel your inner badass?

SP: I do my best to put things in perspective. At the end of the day I have food to eat, a home and bed to go to and an amazing community of friends and family. Things could be so much worse, I'm lucky. 

AA: How would you describe your happy place?

SP: I'm the happiest when I'm around the people I love the most. I also love being in Italy. I have family there and anytime I visit I feel complete. There's something about the way of life there that suits me. Overall when I have good people around me, good food and sunshine I'm happy. 

AA: If could spend your life in one place, where would it be?

SP: I have no idea!! I love to travel but also always look forward to coming home and getting back into a routine. I think there's a few more places in this world I need to explore before I can answer this one ;)

AA: What is your badass quote?

 SP: "Go the extra mile, it's never crowded". An instructor said this in the middle of a spin class I took a few years ago and I'll never forget it. It just really resonated with me and I pushed even harder for the last few minutes of class. It's so true, not everyone has the courage to admit their dreams and then actually chase after them. But if you do it can be pretty incredible.

SP: Equinox Franklin Wednesday mornings at 6am and 6:35am and at BFX Monday at 7:15am. Stay tuned for more classes coming soon!
