#MAMACITASMONDAY: Heidi Anderson
#MamacitaMonday is a glimpse in the life of a babe that inspire Boston (and beyond!) - someone that not only teaches fitness classes but is making an impact. I take classes with this babes, work with them or happen to meet them. You bet they all look gorg while teaching but they are more than that, and I know you want a peek ;)
Heidi and I met a few months ago at Equinox. At that time I was working as a front desk staff and was just starting to teach at Btone Fitness. She quickly became someone I looked up to! She has been teaching for many years, and has so much knowledge around vegan fitness. I was honestly super nervous even to speak to her, but I wanted to know more about her and what she did so every time I had the chance I would ask her something new!
Heidi was a light from the beginning, and super helpful with any questions I had. She has been (without she knowing about it) a role model for me! I feel super lucky she said yes to be part of this series!
Read more about Heidi, give her a follow and love her as much as I do!
AA: Ok, in one sentence tell us who you are? (where are you from, where did you grow up, guilty pleasure, etc.)
HA: My name is Heidi Anderson, I am from New Hampshire (but a city girl at heart), and I am a plant-based, fitness and life enthusiast!
AA: What got you to start teaching fitness classes?
HA: It was actually by accident! I worked the front desk at a gym when I was in college and was OBSESSED with this one teacher and was always front and center in his cardio kick-box class. Long story short, he got in an accident and had to be out of work for a couple of months and he desperately needed someone to take over. Since I was always in class and knew his routines by heart, he asked me to do it and I took the leap and said yes (btw was totally terrified of talking in front of big crowds my entire life, still kind of am). From there my whole career path took a detour into fitness.
AA: What is your wellness secret? (what do you do no matter what)
HA: I always make time for "me-time". It doesn't have to be a long duration of time, even something as simple as spending a few extra minutes in the shower in the morning. I think that we all live such fast-paced lives that it's hard to pump the breaks sometime and slow down, so I make a conscious effort to have some moments in everyday that I can disconnect for a bit.
AA: I'm super inspired by your dedication to teaching and the fitness industry, what motivates you?
HA: What motivates me is to never stop learning. I am always listening to health and wellness Podcasts in my downtime or reading wellness blogs and books. I used to listen to music when I was driving in the car or walking somewhere, but now I love that I can use that time to learn something new by listening to Podcasts. I also love taking classes all around the city and supporting other teachers in the fitness industry. It's so motivating to see others so passionate about their jobs teaching others, and in turn, that motivates me too.
AA: When times are hard, how do you channel your inner badass?
HA: Exercise. Even if I am feeling down, the endorphin rush after a workout is always a boost no matter what.
AA: Being a Fitness instructor and having crazy schedules, do find hard to balance your life and take care of yourself? what advice would you give?
HA: Make time for SLEEP!! As of a year ago I taught every single morning at 6 or 6:30 am, afternoons, evenings and two weekend classes. I was EXHAUSTED, my skin was dull, and I had little to no social life. I ended up writing out my ideal schedule on a piece of paper one day, one that would still work financially, but that I could consistently get enough sleep on too. Over a few months, I started to drop classes here and pick up some there until I reached my ideal schedule, and now I feel SO much more vibrant and alive.
AA: What’s your superpower, or what’s your spirit animal?
HA: This was a tough question, so I actually took a "What's Your Spirit Animal" quiz and apparently I am a cat- independent and curious lol (but for the record, I am more of a dog person!)
AA: What is your favorite way of exercise?
HA: Lately I am all about working out on the Megaformer at Btone and going for walks around the beach in my new neighborhood.
AA: What is your badass quote?
HA: "Love yourself first and everything else falls into place."
AA: Where can we catch you?
HA: You can catch my at Equinox (Sports Club, Chestnut Hill, Dartmouth St, and soon-to-be Seaport) and Yogaworks on Comm Ave
AA: Where can we follow you?
